Italy

The game was first described in the Americas back in the early 14th century. As maps were originally made by hand, they are very different to modern maps. But since the printing technique was created, the cards have become much more popular. History tells us that the birthplace of baccarat is Italy. At the time of its emergence, the game of tarocchi was popular throughout the country. But the game actually has rather little in common with it. Based on the name, it’s not hard to guess that the game would have required tarot cards. The creator is usually considered to be Felix Falgier. But it is worth noting that at the time there were many games in Italy that were similar to baccarat.

How did it come about in America?

If we talk about the U.S., here the first mention dates back to 1911. And the theory is confirmed by many researchers and authors. But there’s also an even earlier newspaper entry, where a casino attracted visitors by playing roulette and baccarat, and that was in 1871.

But then, already with the legalisation of gambling within America, baccarat wasn’t talked about as much. And the next attempt at the game was only in 1958. And since that time, the card game began to attract attention and find more and more fans.

Nowadays, however, you can play baccarat in almost any gambling establishment. And there are two varieties:

1. American.
2. Classic.

Also, some distinguish mini-baccarat. The essence of the game does not change in almost any way, and the rules also applies.

The French theory

Here it appeared in the middle of the 19th century. In fact, one can speculate about its origins endlessly, but the final form was precisely in France. Baccarat was originally introduced by French soldiers in the 15th century.  From then on it became popular in the homes of aristocrats, and with gambling being banned, it wasn’t forgotten in illegal casinos.

Chinese ancestor

One theory says the game has Chinese roots. Its origins lie in Pai Gow, a game of dice. Here too, players need to score 9 points to win.
