The best players in poker history

Poker legends

Poker is currently one of the most popular card games of chance, and poker tournaments collect huge fees and draw spectators and fans from all over the world. But there are some truly legendary players who have achieved a lot in this industry.

Every day the popularity of poker, including on the internet, is only growing. And even the pandemic has had no effect on the industry. And the growth in popularity can be observed already since 2003.

Exactly at that time, a simple accountant from America went to the WSOP Main Event for $40 via an online satellite. And it was from that time that Chris Manimaker was dubbed the mastermind of poker thinking. It was a revolution in its own right.

As time went on, it became clear that online poker was going to be a lucrative business, and many amateurs could indeed become the very real professionals. But at that time no one could have thought that they would have to play on the Internet. The virtual poker world has now changed and has a separate place in the industry.

Legendary poker players

The best players are

Doyle Brunson

The US resident was born way back in 1933. And he has been called the true godfather of poker. There have been ups and downs throughout his career. But even so, Doyle has gone on to win the WSOP. And he’s racked up 10 bracelets in his time in the game. He was able to earn $6.5 million from the game.

The first time he won a bracelet was in 1976. And the following year there was another victory. It is worth noting that in his younger years, Brunson was involved in basketball and had high hopes for him. But an injury ruined everything. Plus in 1595 he was diagnosed with cancer and had to fight it for a long time. And here he came out a winner again.

Stu Unger

He won the WSOP three times and is remembered for his ambiguity and controversy. His first win came back in 1980 and he managed to beat the previous player.

Unger became interested in gambling at the age of 8 and was betting money on horse racing at 10. Teachers spoke of his grand future, as he was very good at maths. As time went on, the lad also gained the support of the mob, so that he could easily come to any establishment to play cards.

Already at the age of 24 he won a bracelet for the first time, and won the top prize 3 times in total. And there is a chance that there would have been many more wins, but he died in 1998 from a drug overdose.

Phil Helmut

This American is rightly considered a true poker legend. He won 15 bracelets and managed to win a total of $19.5 million. But the Main Event of the WSOP has only succumbed once.

Back in his student days, Phil started playing and amassed a sizable bankroll in a short period of time. After that, it was decided to start a professional career in the gambling capital.

To succeed, he had to drop out, which did not please his parents. But it came to nothing and at the age of 24 Helmut won the WSOP Main Event.

Phil Ivey

This is a real star of modern poker with 10 WSOP bracelets and $22 million in prize money. Luck first smiled on the guy at the age of 23

Scotty Nguyen

This is a Vietnamese native who moved to the American territory when he was 13. Throughout his life, he has worked almost everywhere he could. And at a certain point, he realized that this is not the way to make money, after which he started playing poker professionally. And he’s won 12 Main WSOP bracelets to the tune of $12 million in prize money over the course of his career.
